Custom Neon Signs for Home Bars
Custom neon signs for home bars are LED or glass neon signage designed for basement bars, wet bars, man cave bars, wine corners, and home entertaining spaces. Echo Neon makes both formats and has been building personalized bar signs since 2015.
Bars and neon share direct heritage. Cocktail lounges, speakeasies, and classic pubs have been lit with neon for decades, and a home bar is where that tradition lives at the residential level. The most common builds are personalized bar name signs (“[Name]’s Bar,” “The [Family] Pub,” “[Name]’s Speakeasy”), cocktail and drink-themed signs, classic bar phrases, and drink icon signs./span>
This page will cover where home bar signs go (including behind the bottles), when to use LED vs glass, how to size for different bar types, and which home bars we build for. For commercial bar and nightclub signage, see our pub and nightclub neon signs page. To browse other use cases, see all our shop by use case options.

How to Order Your Home Bar Sign
Ordering a custom home bar sign comes down to three steps.
1. Design
First, design the sign. Use the custom sign builder to type your bar name, a cocktail phrase, or custom text. Choose your font, pick your color, and set the size. The builder shows a live preview as you go. For drink icons (martini glass, beer mug, wine glass), logos, or complex artwork, upload your file or contact our design team. If you want glass neon for a heritage bar build, specify glass at the design stage. If you want dimmer control for mood lighting, add a dimmer at the order stage.
2. Production
Second, we produce the sign. Production typically takes one to three weeks depending on complexity, format, and current order volume. LED builds are usually faster than glass.
3. Delivery
Third, the sign ships. Standard shipping is free on all orders.
Home bar signs make popular gifts. Father’s Day, housewarmings, birthdays, and holidays are all common occasions. Personalized bar name signs are a gift that anchors the bar for years.

Where Home Bar Signs Go
Home bar sign placement depends on the bar’s setup, the wall space behind the counter, and whether the bar has a bottle display shelf.
Behind the bar above the counter is the primary placement. The sign faces everyone sitting at the bar or standing in front of it. A bar name sign, a cocktail phrase, or a classic “Bar Open” in this position anchors the entire bar area. This is where most home bar signs go because it is the wall everyone looks at while holding a drink.
Behind the bottles on the back shelf is the most distinctive home bar placement. The sign sits on the wall behind the bottle shelf and illuminates the collection from behind. The bottles become part of the display.
Warm white or amber behind dark bottles (whiskey, bourbon, rum) creates a warm, rich glow that makes the bottles look like they belong in a cocktail lounge. Cooler colors behind clear bottles (vodka, gin, tequila) create a different effect with sharper contrast. Size the sign to the shelf width so it spans the collection evenly. This backlit bottle display is the placement that makes a home bar look like a real bar.
On the wall beside the bar is a secondary placement visible from the seating area and the rest of the room. A drink icon sign, a cocktail phrase, or a decorative accent beside the bar extends the bar’s identity into the surrounding space.
Above the bar entry or doorway marks the transition into the bar area. A bar name sign or “Bar Open” above the door works the same way a restaurant sign marks the entrance. If the bar is in a basement or a separate room, the entry sign tells guests where to go.
On or above the bar cart is the placement for portable bar setups. A small sign sits on the cart or hangs on the wall directly above it. Tabletop placement works. The sign gives the cart its own identity.
Naming the bar is part of the build. “[Name]’s Bar.” “The [Family] Pub.” “[Name]’s Speakeasy.” “The Basement.” “Last Call [Family Name].” The bar name sign is the identity anchor. It turns a counter with bottles into a named destination.
LED vs Glass Neon for Home Bars. Honest Guidance
Bars and neon share direct heritage, and this is one of the few home categories where glass neon is not just an option but the historically authentic choice.
Glass neon is the format that lit cocktail lounges, speakeasies, jazz bars, and classic neighborhood pubs for decades. A hand-bent glass sign behind a home bar counter carries that same warmth and tradition. The glow of glass tubing in a dimly lit bar has a softness and depth that feels right in the context.
For the homeowner building a bar with a vintage, classic, or speakeasy aesthetic, glass is the format that completes the build. A glass bar name sign or a glass cocktail icon behind the counter connects to the history of bar culture in a way that LED does not fully replicate.
LED wins on dimmer control, which matters for mood lighting. A dimmer lets the sign transition from off during the day to a warm glow during cocktail hour to full brightness during a party. LED also costs less, which matters if the bar runs two or three signs across different walls. LED is lighter for mounting on finished basement walls. For modern home bars, minimalist setups, and bars where mood dimming is essential, LED is the practical recommendation.
Many home bars run both. A glass bar name sign as the heritage centerpiece behind the counter and LED accent signs (cocktail icons, ‘Bar Open,’ ‘Happy Hour’) for supporting decor around the space. The mix is the honest recommendation for a bar that wants both heritage and flexibility. Echo Neon makes both formats. To learn more about hand-bent neon, see our glass neon process.
Sizing for Home Bars
Sign size depends on the bar type, the wall space, and the placement.
Behind the bar above the counter: 24 to 48 inches. Proportional to the bar width. A sign that is too small gets lost above a wide counter. A sign that is too big overwhelms a compact wet bar.
Behind the bottles on the back shelf: sized to the shelf width. The sign should span a meaningful portion of the bottle display so the backlit effect is even. If the shelf is 36 inches wide, a 30 to 36 inch sign works. If the shelf is 48 inches, a 36 to 48 inch sign works.
Wall beside the bar: 20 to 36 inches. Accent signs that extend the bar identity into the room.
Above the bar entry or doorway: 18 to 30 inches. Visible from down the hallway or across the room.
Bar cart: 12 to 20 inches. Small enough to sit on the cart surface or hang on the wall directly above it. The sign marks the cart without overpowering it.
Mounting: Echo Neon signs ship with pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard. Drywall anchors for finished basement and interior walls. Standard home bar wall mounting. A dimmer lets the sign transition from daytime (off or low) to bar time (warm glow to full brightness). Add a dimmer at the order stage.
Home Bar Types We Build Signs For
Different home bars have different setups, different wall space, and different sign needs. The sign matches the bar.
Basement bars
The full home bar experience. Counter, stools, shelving, bottle display. Largest wall space of any home bar type. Largest sign potential. The bar name sign anchors the back wall. A glass sign behind the counter connects to the speakeasy and classic bar tradition. LED for accent signs and supporting decor. The behind-the-bottles backlit placement works best in basement bars because they typically have the deepest shelving and the most bottle inventory.
Wet bars
Built into a wall or an alcove in a living room, dining room, or hallway. Smaller proportions than a basement bar. The sign sizes down to match the alcove. 18 to 30 inches typical. A bar name sign or a cocktail phrase that identifies the corner as the bar within the larger room.
Man cave bars
The bar area within a man cave that also includes gaming, TV, and seating zones. The bar sign is one of several signs across the room. Multiple signs mark different zones. For the gaming and man cave side of the signage, see our game room neon signs page.
Wine bars and wine corners
Wine-focused bar area. Wine glass icons, wine-themed phrases, and custom text. Glass neon fits the vintage wine bar aesthetic. The warmth of hand-bent glass behind a wine display works the same way it works behind a cocktail bar.
Bar carts
Portable. The smallest home bar type. The sign sits on the cart or hangs on the wall above it. 12 to 20 inches. LED for lightweight. A bar name or cocktail phrase gives the cart its own identity even though it is a mobile setup.
Garage bars
Bar area within a garage. The bar shares the space with the car, the workbench, or the man cave setup. The bar sign marks the bar zone. For deeper garage signage guidance, see our garage and workshop neon signs page.
Outdoor bars
Outdoor bar area on a patio, deck, or poolside. IP67 waterproof LED required for exposed outdoor placement. Glass for covered outdoor bars with a solid roof. For deeper outdoor signage guidance, see our outdoor and patio neon signs page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most LED home bar signs land between $160 and $600, and can reach over $1,200 depending on size, font complexity, and color. Glass neon starts higher because of the hand-bending labor. Bar name signs and larger pieces run toward the top of the range. Smaller cocktail icons and text signs run toward the bottom. The custom builder shows a live price as you change options.
Both work. Glass for speakeasy, classic, and vintage bar aesthetics. LED for modern bars, mood dimming, and lower cost. Many home bars run both: glass behind the counter, LED for accent signs around the space. Echo Neon makes both.

Build a Sign for Your Bar
Custom neon signs are how a lot of home bars go from a counter with bottles to a named destination. Echo Neon makes both LED and glass neon, which means we can recommend the right format for the bar and the job the sign has to do. Glass behind the counter for heritage. LED for mood dimming and accents. A bar name sign that tells everyone this space has a name. We have been building personalized bar signs since 2015, across basement bars, wet bars, man cave bars, wine corners, bar carts, garage bars, and outdoor bars.
