Custom Neon Signs for Gyms and Fitness Studios
Custom neon signs for gyms and fitness studios are LED or glass neon signage built for the specific conditions of fitness facilities. Echo Neon makes both formats and has been building signs for gym brands and fitness studio owners since 2015. Most fitness businesses use neon signs for one of five reasons: a storefront sign that pulls people in from the street, a logo sign at reception that anchors the brand, a motivation wall that drives focus on the workout floor, a selfie wall that turns members into a content engine for the studio, or wayfinding signs that guide traffic in larger facilities. The right format depends on where the sign goes and what it has to do. This page covers when to use LED, when to use glass, how to size and place a sign for a gym wall, and which fitness business types we build for. To browse other use cases, see all our shop by use case options.

How to Order Your Gym Sign
Ordering a custom gym sign comes down to three steps.
1. Design
First, design the sign. Use the custom sign builder to type your text, choose your font, pick your color, and set the size. The builder shows a live preview as you go. If you are starting from a logo, an artwork file, or a more complex idea, upload your file or contact our design team and we will work with you on the build.
2. Production
Second, we produce the sign. Production typically takes one to three weeks depending on complexity, format, and current order volume. LED builds are usually faster than glass. We will keep you posted along the way.
3. Delivery
Third, the sign ships. Standard shipping is free on all orders. Larger commercial signs (storefront facades, multi-piece installations) may ship in a custom crate.
For multi-location chain orders, custom branding programs, or anything that needs more than one sign at scale, contact us directly to start the conversation. We have built across single-studio installations and full franchise rollouts.

Where Gyms and Fitness Studios Use Neon Signs
Most gym and fitness studio neon signs fall into five jobs. Each one has different requirements for size, format, durability, and placement
The storefront facade sign sits outside the building. Its job is to catch passing foot traffic and make the gym easy to find. Storefront signs need to be rated for outdoor use (IP67 weatherproofing) and sized to be readable from the sidewalk or across a parking lot.
The reception logo sign sits at the front desk or behind it. It anchors the brand the moment someone walks in. This is often the place where boutique studios choose hand-bent glass neon, because the craftsmanship signals premium positioning the way a printed vinyl logo cannot.
The motivation wall sits on the workout floor. It carries a quote, a hashtag, or a brand line that members read every day during their session. These signs get sized large enough to read from the squat rack, the cardio bank, or the mat area, depending on the layout.
The selfie wall is a sign positioned for member photos. Members tag the studio when they share, which turns every workout into free marketing. Selfie wall signs are usually mounted at typical phone-camera height with enough wall around them to frame a person.
Wayfinding and zone marker signs work in larger facilities with multiple rooms. A sign reading Studio A, Locker Room, or Cycle Room helps members find their way and reduces front-desk questions.
Each of these jobs can run on LED or glass neon. The next section breaks down which format works best for which job, and covers storefront neon signs when the sign is the front-of-house identity for a fitness business.
LED vs Glass Neon for Fitness Spaces. Honest Guidance
Most neon-sign websites push LED. That is because most of them only sell LED. Echo Neon makes both LED neon flex and hand-bent glass neon, which means we can give you straight advice on which format actually fits the job, instead of recommending whatever happens to be in the catalog.
LED neon wins for most gym applications. It runs at low voltage (12V or 24V), stays cool to the touch, and contains no glass tubing or gas. That matters in a gym for three reasons. Members brush against walls. Weights drop nearby. People move at speed. LED holds up better in that kind of environment. LED also dims, which means a 24-hour gym can lower brightness during overnight hours, and a yoga studio can pull the level down during a savasana. LED is the right format for outdoor storefront signs, because IP67 weatherproof builds are LED-only. LED also costs less than glass at the same size, which matters when you are signing a multi-location chain.
Glass neon wins for boutique fitness brands where the look of the sign is part of the brand. A hand-bent glass sign at the reception of a high-end pilates studio or a heritage boxing gym signals craftsmanship and permanence the way LED cannot replicate. The glow is warmer. The tubing is real. The sign feels like an object, not a decoration. For a brand that trades on quality, the glass sign is part of how you communicate that.
Most fitness facilities run a mix. The interior brand-anchor sign at reception is glass. The storefront facade is LED with IP67 rating. The motivation walls on the workout floor are LED for cost and durability. We will tell you which is right for your specific job, and we are happy to recommend LED when LED is the right call. Built for Real Gym Conditions
Gyms are tough environments for any wall-mounted product. Heat, humidity, daily use, and long operating hours all matter. The right neon sign holds up because it is built for the conditions, not against them.
Heat is rarely a problem for either format. LED neon flex runs cool to the touch, which is one of its safety features. Glass neon runs warmer than LED but is enclosed in glass tubing, so direct contact is rare. Neither format has heat issues in a normal gym ambient temperature.
Humidity is where the question gets interesting. Standard fitness facility humidity (a regular gym, a CrossFit box, a boxing gym, a personal training studio) is well within what LED neon flex is built to handle. Hot yoga rooms operate at higher humidity than a normal indoor space. For studios running at sustained high humidity, talk to our team before ordering. We can recommend the right build, mounting approach, and rating for the room. We would rather get this right at the spec stage than have you find out later.
Lifespan favors commercial buyers. LED neon flex is rated for approximately 40,000 hours of life. That works out to about four and a half years at full 24/7 operation, or about thirteen years at eight hours per day. A typical gym running signs during operating hours falls somewhere in between, which means a single sign easily outlasts most lease cycles.
Outdoor storefront signs need IP67 weatherproof rating. Indoor signs do not. Putting an indoor-rated sign outside on a gym building is the most common installation mistake we see, and it shortens the life of the sign considerably. If the sign is going on the front of the building, ask for the outdoor build.
Sizing and Placement for Maximum Impact
Sign size depends on two things: the wall it is going on and how far away most people will be standing or sitting when they look at it.
Storefront signs need to be readable from the sidewalk or across the parking lot. For most gym facade installations, that means sign widths in the 48 to 96 inch range, depending on building setback. A sign that looks fine on the showroom floor often looks small once it is mounted twenty feet up on the front of a building. Size up.
Reception focal-point signs work at smaller sizes. A 24 to 36 inch wide sign behind the front desk is usually plenty, because members are looking at it from across the desk, not from across the room. The job of a reception sign is to anchor the brand at the moment of arrival, not to be visible from every corner of the lobby.
Motivation walls scale with the floor. A sign on the wall behind the squat racks needs to be readable from the cardio area on the other side of the gym. That usually means 48 inches wide or larger, depending on the gym layout. A sign sized for a small workout area will get lost in a 10,000 square foot commercial facility.
Selfie walls work best at sign widths in the 30 to 48 inch range, mounted at standing chest height. That gives enough wall around the sign to frame a person in a phone-camera shot, which is the entire point of having one. A selfie wall that is too small or too high cuts off the photo and stops members from sharing.
Fitness Business Types We Build Signs For
Different fitness businesses use neon signs differently. The audience, the budget, the placement, and the brand all shift the answer.
Commercial gyms and fitness chains
Commercial gyms and franchise fitness centers usually need consistent signage across multiple locations. We work with chain operators on bulk orders, color matching across builds, and brand-consistent storefronts and motivation walls. For multi-location procurement, contact us directly to coordinate the build.
Boutique fitness studios
Boutique fitness studios put more weight on brand identity than chain gyms do. Yoga, pilates, barre, spin, and HIIT studios often choose hand-bent glass neon for reception and feature walls, where the craftsmanship signals premium positioning.
CrossFit boxes and functional training facilities
CrossFit boxes and functional training facilities have a distinct aesthetic. Raw spaces, high ceilings, and community branding make oversized neon signs work well. A box logo on the back wall, a Workout of the Day sign, or a community hashtag are all common builds. Hyrox training facilities follow a similar pattern.
Boxing, kickboxing, and martial arts gyms
Boxing, kickboxing, and martial arts gyms tend to lean into heritage branding, and our custom neon sigs are great for this.
Personal training studios
Personal training studios are often single-trainer brands. The trainer is the brand, and the sign reflects that. Most personal training studios run a single feature sign at reception or behind the training floor. Custom logo neon signs are the most common build for this audience.
Home gyms
Home gym owners (garage gyms, basement gyms, dedicated workout rooms) make up the consumer side of this category. For home gym builds, see our dedicated home gym neon signs page, which covers sizing, placement, and motivation quote ideas for residential workout spaces.
Echo Neon Examples in Fitness Spaces
Ten years of building signs for gyms and fitness studios means we have made a lot of them. Boutique pilates studios with reception logo signs in warm white. Boxing gyms with oversized motivation quotes mounted above the heavy bags. CrossFit boxes with the box name in the box’s brand colors, twelve feet wide on the back wall. Spin studios with selfie walls positioned at camera height for the post-class photo. Outdoor gym facades with IP67 LED signs running their full hours. Yoga studios with single-line glass neon at the entry, the kind of sign that makes a member feel like the studio cares about details.
The gallery has the photos. We update it as customers send back installation shots, so it gives a more current and accurate read on what we actually build than a stock-photo product page can. If you are working through a brand brief or trying to sell a sign to a partner or franchisor, the gallery is the fastest way to show them what is possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most LED neon signs for gyms land between $150 and $1,200 depending on size, color, and complexity. Glass neon typically starts higher because of the hand-bending labor involved. The custom builder shows a live price as you change options, so the easiest way to get an exact figure is to plug your specs into the builder.
Yes. LED neon flex runs at low voltage (12V or 24V), stays cool to the touch, and contains no glass tubing or gas. That makes it suitable for high-traffic environments and member-accessible walls. Members can lean against a wall with a LED neon sign on it without any safety concerns.
Yes, when the sign is rated for outdoor use. Echo Neon offers IP67-rated outdoor neon for facade and storefront installation. An indoor-rated sign should not be installed outside, because weather exposure shortens its life. Always confirm outdoor rating before mounting on an exterior wall.
LED neon flex is rated for approximately 40,000 hours of operation. At full 24/7 use that is roughly four and a half years. At twelve hours per day it is closer to nine years. Glass neon lifespan varies by transformer and tube quality but is comparable in commercial use.
Standard LED neon flex handles typical fitness facility humidity. For hot yoga rooms running consistently above standard humidity ranges, talk to our team before ordering. We can recommend the right build, mounting approach, and rating so the sign holds up in those conditions.
Yes. Upload your logo file to the custom builder, or contact our design team for complex artwork. Both LED and glass options are available for logo signs. We work with PNG, SVG, AI, and PDF files for logo input.
The right size depends on wall size and viewing distance. As a general guide: 24 to 36 inches works for a focal accent or reception sign, 48 to 60 inches works for a feature wall on the gym floor, and 72 inches or larger works for storefront facades or large studio walls.
