Custom LED Neon Signs for Kids Rooms
Custom LED neon signs for kids rooms are kid-safe, low-voltage signage designed for nurseries, children’s bedrooms, and playrooms. Echo Neon builds personalized LED signs for children of all ages and has been doing it since 2015. We recommend LED neon flex only for kids rooms. No glass neon.
LED runs cool to the touch, contains no glass tubing, and operates at low voltage (12V or 24V), which makes it safe for rooms where children sleep and play. The most popular builds are custom name signs, themed shape signs (stars, moons, dinosaurs, unicorns, animals), and fun phrase signs. With a dimmer, the sign also works as a night light at low brightness.
We will cover why LED is the only format we recommend for kids rooms, how to size and mount safely, which designs work for each age, and how the sign grows with your child. To browse other use cases, see all our shop by use case options.

How to Order Your Kids Room Sign
Ordering a custom kids room sign comes down to three steps.
1. Design
First, design the sign. Use the custom sign builder to type the child's name, choose a font, pick a color, and set the size. The builder shows a live preview as you go. Name signs are the most popular kids room build. For themed shapes, character designs, or more complex artwork, upload your file or contact our design team. If you want the sign to work as a night light, add a dimmer at the order stage.
2. Production
Second, we produce the sign. Production typically takes one to three weeks depending on complexity and current order volume.
3. Delivery
Third, the sign ships. Standard shipping is free on all orders.
Plan your cord routing before you mount the sign. Know where the nearest outlet is and how you will run the cord from the sign to the power source without leaving slack where a child can reach it.
Kids room neon signs make great gifts. Baby showers, birthdays, Christmas, and new baby celebrations are all common occasions. The custom builder lets you personalize with the child’s name, a favorite theme, or a special message. A personalized name sign is a gift the family keeps for years.

Why LED Neon Is the Only Format We Recommend for Kids Rooms
Echo Neon makes both LED neon flex and hand-bent glass neon. For kids rooms, we recommend LED only. This is the one category where we do not offer glass as an option.
LED neon flex runs at low voltage (12V or 24V). It stays cool to the touch even after hours of operation. It contains no glass tubing, no gas, and no mercury. These are not marketing claims. They are the engineering facts that make LED safe for a room where a child sleeps, plays, and reaches for things on the wall.
What safe installation means in practice goes beyond the sign itself. Mount the sign well above crib rail height so it is out of a standing toddler’s reach. Use secure drywall anchors, not picture-hanging nails, because the sign must not fall into a crib or onto a bed. Echo Neon signs ship with pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard for wall mounting.
Route the power cord behind the crib or along the baseboard, away from the child’s reach. Use a cord cover or cord channel if the cord runs along a wall near the crib or toddler bed. A dangling power cord near a sleeping child is a hazard. Plan cord routing before mounting the sign.
These are the safety details that matter. Every neon sign company says their signs are kid-safe. What matters is how the sign is installed, where the cord goes, and whether the sign stays on the wall.
Two Jobs: Fun Room Feature and Night Light
A kids room neon sign does two jobs. During the day, it is a fun, personalized feature on the wall. A child’s name glowing in their favorite color. A dinosaur. A unicorn. A moon and stars. Something that makes the room theirs. At night, with a dimmer at low brightness, the same sign works as a night light that provides a warm glow without flooding the room with light.
For nurseries and babies, the night light function matters most. The sign at its lowest setting provides a soft glow for nighttime feeding and comfort. The dimmer controls brightness from outside the room so you do not have to enter and disturb a sleeping baby to adjust the light.
For toddlers and young kids, both jobs matter equally. The sign is something fun on the wall that the child is proud of during the day, and a comforting glow at bedtime. Kids like seeing their name lit up. They like pointing at the dinosaur on the wall. That is the daytime value. The nighttime value is that the same sign keeps the room from being completely dark.
For older children, the fun and personalization are usually the main draw. The sign is room decor that reflects who they are. The night light function becomes optional as the child grows.
Color choice affects both jobs. Warm white glows softest at low dimmer settings and works best for nurseries and nighttime comfort. Pastels glow gently. Bold colors (pink, blue, green) make a stronger daytime statement but feel brighter at night even at low settings. For a room that needs to serve both jobs well, warm white or a soft pastel is the most forgiving choice. For an older child who cares more about how the sign looks during the day, bolder colors work.
Add a dimmer at the order stage if you want the sign to serve both jobs.
Sizing and Placement for Kids Rooms
Sign size depends on the room, the furniture, and the child’s age.
Nursery signs above the crib work at 18 to 30 inches wide. Mount centered above the crib, well above the rail height. The sign should be visible when entering the room but not reachable by a standing toddler in the crib.
Toddler bed signs work at 18 to 30 inches. Mount above the headboard or on the wall beside the bed. Same cord-routing rules apply: keep the power cord away from where the child can reach it.
Big-kid bedroom signs work at 20 to 36 inches. Above the bed, above a desk, or on a feature wall. Older children have opinions about where the sign goes. Let them help choose the spot.
Playroom signs work at 20 to 36 inches. Mount higher on the wall than you would in a bedroom because children move at speed in playrooms. A sign at child height in a playroom is within reach and within collision range.
Mounting: Echo Neon signs ship with pre-drilled holes in the acrylic backboard. Use drywall anchors for secure installation. For rental situations where drilling is not allowed, adhesive mounting strips work for lightweight LED signs. Test the adhesive on the wall surface before mounting above a crib or bed.
Cord routing: run the cord behind the furniture, along the baseboard, through a cord cover, or directly into a nearby outlet. The cord should never hang loose where a child can reach, pull, or chew on it. Plan the cord path before you mount the sign.
Signs by Age
Different ages call for different signs. The design, the sizing, and the role the sign plays in the room all shift as the child grows.
Nursery and newborns (0 to 1)
Baby name signs are the most popular nursery build. The child’s name in warm white or a soft pastel, mounted above the crib. The sign is part of the nursery decor during the day and a night light at bedtime. Warm white or soft colors work best for the nursery because they glow gently at low dimmer settings without creating harsh light. This is also the strongest gift category. Personalized baby name signs are one of the most popular gifts for baby showers, new baby celebrations, and first birthdays.
Toddlers (1 to 3)
The name sign from the nursery continues to work. Simple themed shapes (stars, moons, hearts, animals) add to the room as the child starts recognizing objects. The night light function still matters at this age. Cord management is especially important for toddlers because they pull on things they can reach. Route the cord away from the bed and secure it to the wall.
Young children (4 to 8)
This is where the fun becomes the main draw. The child has opinions about their room and wants a sign that reflects what they like. Dinosaurs. Unicorns. Space themes. Sports. Animals. Favorite colors. Name signs remain popular but themed designs and fun phrase signs become just as common. Bolder colors work because the child cares about how the sign looks during the day. The night light function is still practical for the younger end of this range and optional for the older end.
Tweens (9 to 12)
Personal expression takes over. Custom names in script fonts, favorite quotes, initials, and designs that reflect the child’s personality and interests. The sign starts to look more like teen decor than nursery decor, which is exactly right. The sign ordered as a baby can still work at this age if the font and color were chosen with longevity in mind. For teen bedroom signage, see our bedroom neon signs page.
Playrooms
Playrooms are shared spaces where fun comes first. Bright colors, fun shapes, game-themed designs, and family-name signs all work. Mount higher on the wall because children in playrooms run, jump, and throw things. The night light function is less relevant in a playroom. The sign’s job here is room identity and decoration.
